The current FAI Cup holders are Derry City having won the competition in 2022. The Candystripes beat Shelbourne in last year's final but with both sides eliminated from this year's competition we are assured a different champion.

Cork City's Path To The FAI Cup Quarter-Final
First Round – Treaty 0-2 Cork City
Second Round – Cork City 3-0 Waterford
This game against Wexford will be Cork City's third consecutive match against a First Division side in this year's FAI Cup. This means that Cork could remarkably find themselves in a semi-final without beating a fellow Premier Division side.
This is their best chance to return to the FAI Cup Final for the first time since 2018 when they lost 2-1 to Dundalk. That was in fact the fourth final in a row between the two sides with Cork City winning in 2016 and 2017.

Wexford are having a flying season in the League of Ireland First Division. They currently occupy the final playoff spot, four points ahead of Longford. That is a spot they missed out on last season by eight points.
Wexford have also had a fortunate cup run having not had to play a team from either the League of Ireland Premier Division or First Division en route to this quarter-final. This side have the opportunity to reach the FAI Cup semi-final for the first time in their history if they can shock Cork City this Friday night.

Dundalk have had an inconsistent league season. With seven games remaining it’s looking very unlikely that they return to Europe via the league this season. However, the cup specialists have a real chance of earning that European spot by winning the FAI Cup.

Bohemians are fourth on the table and despite falling off a little from their table-topping start, they’re still in the hunt for Europe in the league. If they can combine that with an FAI Cup victory it would certainly be considered a progressive season for Bohs.

St Patrick’s Athletic have had an excellent season since Jon Daly came in as manager following the departure of Tim Clancy. Unfortunately from a Pats perspective, a defeat in the league last time out to Shelbourne means their unlikely title charge seems even more unlikely.
On the bright side, the Inchicore based side have a real chance of FAI Cup success as they head into this quarter-final as massive favourites in the betting to advance to the semi-final stage.
