Celtic v Rangers Preview
Celtic’s Form
Celtic’s most recent outing came on Boxing Day when they played Dundee in the SPL. The Bhoys were dominant in that game with 74% of possession and 38 shots as they secured a 0-3 away win to put themselves in high spirits ahead of this Old Firm derby.
Prior to that game, Celtic faced Livingston at home on the 23rd of this month and enjoyed a similar level of dominance with 78% of possession, 22 shots en route to a 2-0 victory.
The Hoops’ last loss in the SPL came against Hearts on the 16th of December. Despite dominating the ball with 77% possession, Celtic could not convert any of their 22 shots into a goal. Hearts on the other hand only managed 2 shots on target but were fortunate that both of those attempts ended up in the back of the Celtic net.
There will be concern among fans of The Bhoys that they have only managed to convert 5 goals from 82 shots in their last three outings. If they are so wasteful in front of goal against Rangers they are unlikely to escape with a win.

Rangers’ Form
Rangers come into this game on a cracking run of form. Their last loss came at the beginning of October and since then they are unbeaten. They will take the pitch on Saturday with their 7-game winning streak on the line.
The Gers were in action most recently on Christmas Eve against Motherwell where they put the game to bed early with goals from Kieran Dowell and Todd Cantwell.
Previous to that, The Light Blues enjoyed a comfortable 2-0 victory over St. Johnstone on December 20th with 72% possession and 28 shots compared to just 2 shots at goal from the visitors.
The highlight of the month for Rangers was their 1-0 Scottish League Cup Final win over Aberdeen with James Tavernier netting the sole goal in that game.

Key Players To Watch
Matt O’Riley (Celtic)
Goals: 9
Assists: 5
Matt O’Riley has been the star man for Celtic this season. The 23-year-old midfielder has been a force for The Bhoys in the middle of the park, not just scoring goals (9) but also creating chances for others which is evidenced by his 5 assists this season.
If Rangers can keep the Dane quiet on Saturday it will go a long way towards winning them the game. That will be easier said than done, however.
James Tavernier (Rangers)
Goals: 9
Assists: 5
Clean Sheets: 10
Rangers captain James Tavernier has been the star of this team for some time and he shows no signs of slowing down despite his advancing age (32). The all-action right-back has 9 goals to his credit already this season and as the designated penalty and free-kick taker, he will have a great chance to add to his tally this Saturday.
Celtic v Rangers Prediction & Best Bet
Prediction: Celtic 2-1 Rangers
I’m predicting that Celtic will win this Old Firm 2-1. Rangers come into this game on a better run of form but I think Celtic will make home advantage count to secure an important victory.
