England aren’t good enough to win the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

That’s according to former Man United star Dwight Yorke who has downplayed the chances of the Three Lions ending their long wait for a second World Cup.

The comments come after the English were beaten 2-1 by Spain in the Euro 2024 Final thanks to a late Mikel Oyarzabal winner. Despite making it to the final of 2 of their last 3 major tournaments, Yorke has explained why this England team is not good enough to go one step better in the post-Gareth Southgate era and who he expects to replace him as England Manager.

Lee Carsley Will Be Given Chance As England Manager But These Managers Will Be Waiting In The Wings

Having lived the majority of my life in England, I think the FA want to showcase that England has got a quality level of managers and I think that they want us to probably ideally go with an English manager.

They will have a hard time picking the manager, but I think they will go for Lee Carsley as a first option for the next few games just to see how he gets on.

*Lee Carsley is 10/3 to be the next permanent England Manager per the latest football betting at BoyleSports.

I think then the season will start and then things will take shape, if things don’t go to plan at Newcastle for Eddie Howe then he might end up with England.

Of course, you've got Graham Potter who's been out of work but is another option, then an outside chance of someone like Frank Lampard, those are the three English candidates.

I think they will just go for the interim manager with Carlsey for a few games in September and see how that goes. If he gets a really good response then he could be installed as the full-time manager.

If that doesn't go to plan, Eddie Howe, Graham Potter and Frank Lampard come into the frame.

England Don’t Have What It Takes To Win 2026 World Cup

I don’t think England have what it takes to win the World Cup because of what we saw with Gareth Southgate. If he got them to that level but couldn’t get them over the line, who is to say that it would be any different under Lee Carsley?

They obviously have quality players, but I think it's more the mindset and the more belief in the way they approach these international games and being a little bit more convinced in this style of play.

At international level you've got to retain the ball and keep the ball a little bit more and play possession-based. England have tried too many times, you try to adapt to other countries and you get found out and I think that's where England have struggled.

*England are 7/1 to win the 2026 World Cup per the latest football odds at BoyleSports.

Jude Bellingham Missed a Huge Chance to Win the Ballon D’or

Jude Bellingham will be thinking it was a great opportunity to win the Ballon d’Or that he has missed out on. Having said that, you still can't take away the fact that he's coming off such a huge success being voted the player of year in Spain.

With the goals he has scored he has turned into a top class player and he still has a lot to do, but he would’ve looked at it and thought he had a great chance to be Ballon d'Or before the Euros.

Can he now drive on to become even better? He would have learned from the things that didn't particularly go great for England in that set up as a player and as a person.

It’s an opportunity missed, but he's still got a lot of time in front of him to then claim the Ballon d’Or, but it was a huge chance for him to do it at such a young age.

*Jude Bellingham is 5/1 to win the Ballon d’Or according to the latest football odds at BoyleSports.

Celtic Stars Can Rewrite the History Books by Matching Rangers’ Titles

Like me at Manchester United when he were chasing Liverpool, Celtic players will want to be part of the team that finally topple Rangers.

They are two huge clubs with so much history behind them, it’s about elevating yourself to that prestigious level - and trying to rewrite the history books.

When you're in the moment, you don’t think too much about it, but it will be like me looking back at my time at Manchester United, you become part of something iconic that fans and players will always reflect on.

Celtic players will want to be part of these kinds of memorable moments in football.

Portugal Paid the Price for Their Management of Cristiano Ronaldo

I've been very blessed to know Cristiano personally and have been in his company. So of course I'm a huge fan of a big admirer of what he’s done and want to see him continuing to do that.

He's an incredible human being and he has broken all these records around Europe and the world in football.

I think that he had the opportunity to prove that he can still do what he does at this level but it hasn't quite worked out that way for him - that doesn't mean that he's a bad player overnight.

I think he's much better off in Saudi. You've seen him score 50-plus goals in a free-flowing team that plays to his strengths which makes him blossom even more.

I don't think going back to Europe will work for Ronaldo because teams won’t play to his strengths. If you take that away then it’s not going to work because he doesn’t have that explosiveness that he used to have.

I don't think teams will invest in someone like Ronaldo now to play to his own strengths. Portugal weren’t playing to his strengths and the team suffered so dearly for it.
