Having watched George Russell bounce back to top form in Austria , punters must now decide whether the Mercedes ace is ready to end his Silverstone hoodoo in their British Grand Prix predictions . The 28-year-old has picked up a paltry 11 points from eight previous races at the Northamptonshire circuit , posting form figures of 14-12-18-12-DNF-5-DNF-10.
However, Russell did outstrip then team-mate Lewis Hamilton to secure pole position a couple of years ago, only for a water leak to force an early retirement on lap 33. So, hot on the heels of what team boss Toto Wolff hailed as “a perfect execution” at the Red Bull Ring last weekend, we reckon 5/2 for Russell to land a first home win is the way to go.

Sunday’s Pirelli British Grand Prix will be broadcast live on Sky Sports, with a UK start time of 15:00 BST.
Russell on a High
Russell certainly in positive spirits
Russell started the season as the title favourite and backed that up with victory in Australia , but 19-year-old team-mate Kimi Antonelli has won five of the eight rounds staged so far to lead the way. The Italian is a 13/8 market leader in the British Grand Prix odds , but Russell will arrive at Silverstone with a spring in his step after cutting the gap at the top of the table to 40 points.
After his Austrian triumph, he said: “We know it’s very tight at the front and our competitors are pushing us hard, so we have to keep working to find more performance. For now, though, we can take the positives from this weekend and look ahead to Silverstone next week."
Russell can also be backed at 2/1 to secure a third straight pole position after being fastest in qualifying at the last two events.
Hamilton Threat
Hamilton track record has to be respected
More than 175,000 tickets have been sold for Sunday’s race, but a Russell victory would not be the most popular result in the packed-out stands. Silverstone hero Hamilton is enjoying a renaissance in his second season with Ferrari and is quoted at 11/2 to bag a record-extending 10 th British Grand Prix success.
The 41-year-old recently ended a long barren run by winning in Barcelona but finished a distant fifth in Austria , a race described as a “reality check” by the seven-time world champion .
He said: “We still do have a good car, but we are down compared to Mercedes . They are just quicker. It doesn’t mean we can’t close that gap. It’s just that one win doesn’t mean we’re going to be beating them all the time. It’s the opposite. We’ve got a lot of work to do.”
However, Hamilton has turned it on time and time again at Silverstone, so few will rule out another fairytale triumph this Sunday. Ferrari partner Charles Leclerc can be backed at 15/2 to take the chequered flag first, Red Bull’s Max Verstappen is 11/2 to go one better than his runner-up effort last time out, while Britain’s Lando Norris is 20/1 to repeat last year’s success for McLaren .
