Kimi Antonelli claimed his sixth win of the season in Belgium to give us a nice pay-day but we’re deserting the championship leader in our Hungarian Grand Prix predictions .

Ferrari had an encouraging race at Spa-Francorchamps , with Charles Leclerc finishing second and Lewis Hamilton taking fourth place following an eventful drive.

Track conditions in Budapest should be more suitable to the Scuderia and a slight preference is for Hamilton to prevail this weekend at 7/2 from the Hungarian Grand Prix odds .

Advantage Ferrari

Tight Budapest bends tipped to favour Ferrari

Leclerc admittedly benefited from pitting under a virtual safety car when a fine runner-up, crossing the line 1.9 seconds back from Antonelli after being reeled in with 10 laps remaining. That was another rock-solid effort from the Monegasque following his British Grand Prix success, especially on a circuit which favoured the straight-line speed of Mercedes .

That advantage is expected to be far less significant at the Hungaroring , where short straights and tight corners on a high-downforce track could play more to Ferrari’s strengths. Leclerc has only finished fourth at best in Budapest but he did qualify fastest 12 months ago and is 9/2 to claim the race victory this time.

However, it is hard to ignore Hamilton’s record tally of eight wins in this race when considering which Ferrari driver to follow this weekend. The 41-year-old, who had crashed out of final practice on the Saturday, had to overcome a five-second penalty for colliding with George Russell early on at Spa and later ran over his own mechanic in the pit lane.

Despite an issue with his front wing, though, Hamilton showed plenty of pace in Belgium and definitely looked quicker than Leclerc at times. Looking ahead to the next challenge, the seven-time world champion declared: “I need to deliver the way I know I can deliver in Budapest and fight for that win.”

Antonelli favourite

Antonelli predictably heads market again

After failing to score points in two of the previous three races, Antonelli produced a mature and disciplined display to get back on track in Belgium . The Italian did not let losing the lead during a VSC faze him and used his superior speed to overhaul Leclerc in an impressively methodical manner.

“It is great to be back on the top step after a few difficult rounds, but it was a tough win because Charles was quick,” said Antonelli , who is the 7/4 favourite to triumph again in Budapest . Russell is 50 points behind his Mercedes team-mate in the title race after he crashed out on the opening lap following the collision with Hamilton . After the second DNF of a season plagued by niggling problems, the Briton said: “I am numb to the disappointment. When it happens so often, you just get used to it.”

For those seeking a bit of value in their Hungarian Grand Prix betting tips , Russell is 11/2 for a much-needed boost, while Max Verstappen is available at 7/1 to add to his 2022 and 2023 wins here for Red Bull.

McLaren have enjoyed a one-two at this venue for the past couple of years, but they are not the same force this term, so Lando Norris is 11/1 to repeat last season’s success and punters can get 18/1 for 2024 victor Oscar Piastri.
