Brighton are outright favourites to continue English domination of the Conference League and replace arch rivals Crystal Palace as champions. Premier League clubs have claimed three of the five Conference League titles to date, with West Ham winners in 2023, Chelsea in 2025 and Palace last season.

The Seagulls , who reached the Europa League last 16 in 2024 under Roberto De Zerbi , have enjoyed a promising start to the new campaign, recording back-to-back 4-0 wins over Aston Villa and Tromso before suffering a narrow 4-3 defeat at Chelsea .
They face a testing finish to their Conference League league phase, hosting highly-fancied Monaco before travelling to 20-time Greek champions Panathinaikos in their final two fixtures, but Fabian Hurzeler's well-oiled machine will hope to have secured knockout football before then.
Atalanta

Atalanta’s recent body of work in Italy and Europe suggests they should be genuine contenders to be crowned champions in Istanbul next June. Over the last decade, Atalanta have finished in the top four of Serie A on six occasions, won the 2024 Europa League and reached the quarter-finals of both the Champions League and Europa League .
Last season the Bergamo outfit beat the likes of Chelsea , Borussia Dortmund and Marseille en route to the last 16 of the Champions League , where they lost 10-2 on aggregate to Bayern Munich .
A seventh-placed league finish led to a change of coach, but new boss Maurizio Sarri has European pedigree, leading Chelsea to the 2019 Europa League title.

Monaco are one of the biggest names involved in the 2026-27 Conference League , arguably only second in stature to Ajax , and have a storied history. A breeding ground for some of the game’s top talent, including Thierry Henry , Kylian Mbappe and Lilian Thuram , the Monegasques have been French champions eight times and were Champions League runners-up in 2004.
Recent seasons have been tougher under the shadow of Paris St Germain but Monaco have still made their mark, finishing second (2024) and third (2025) in Ligue 1 while reaching the Champions League knockout play-offs in successive years.
A seventh-placed league finish consigned them to life in the Conference League this term, but new coach Filipe Luis could be an astute appointment. The Brazilian , a two-time Europa League champion with Atletico Madrid as a player, enjoyed remarkable success at previous club Flamengo , winning seven titles during his 100 games in charge.
Freiburg

Freiburg have been a Bundesliga fixture for 16 of the last 17 seasons and have started to become a European regular in recent times too. They reached the last 16 of the Europa League in both 2023 and 2024 before going all the way last season, losing 3-0 to Aston Villa in the final.
Julian Schuster's men also reached the semi-finals of the DFB-Pokal but challenging on all fronts during a record-breaking campaign proved difficult and they ended up having to settle for seventh in the Bundesliga .
Freiburg have lost some key players over the summer, including Johan Manzambi and Noah Atubolu , but they have made a flying start to the new season, winning their opening four matches and scoring 16 goals in process.
