England captain Harry Kane has moved level with Peter Shilton as the country’s most capped men’s international.
The 33-year-old Bayern Munich striker has achieved all manner of milestones during his remarkable international career and clocked up another on Tuesday with his 125th appearance, marking it with a brace as Thomas Tuchel’s men all but secured their place in the Nations League knockouts with a 3-0 win against Czechia.

The stalwart goalkeeper whose England career spanned 19 years and 224 days between 1970 and 1990. He made 20 appearances at major tournaments, including a World Cup semi-final in his swansong summer. He kept 66 clean sheets.

England’s current captain and standard bearer for the past decade, Kane is already out on his own as the nation’s record goalscorer with a remarkable 91. The 33-year-old has gone to a new level at Bayern Munich and shows no signs of slowing down.

A teenage tearaway talent turned elder statesman, Rooney was the focal point for the English attack for 15 years between 2003-2018. His record of 53 goals stood until Kane soared past, but he managed just one goal in three World Cup campaigns.

Football’s foremost A-list celebrity made his name on the field as a hugely dedicated and talented midfielder. Vilified for his sending off against Argentina in 1998, his ‘golden balls’ hero turn was completed by the time of his famous one-man show against Greece three years later. Captained his country 59 times and made 20 tournament appearances.
Steven Gerrard
Steven Gerrard - 114 caps
The Liverpool star was the fulcrum of the midfield from the moment he emerged at the turn of the millennium, chipping in 21 goals. Unbeaten in his first 21 outings, he featured in six major international competitions and captained three campaigns in 2010, 2012 and 2014.
Bobby Moore
Bobby Moore - 108 caps
Still the country’s only World Cup- winning captain, Moore remains arguably the most venerated player to wear the shirt. The West Ham great became England’s youngest skipper at 22 when he first led the side in 1963 and did so another 89 times as the cornerstone of Sir Alf Ramsey’s side.
Ashley Cole
Ashley Cole - 107 caps
Locked down the left-back role for a generation, establishing himself as one of the best in the world in his position. Consistently impressive on the big stage, he never lost a competitive international on home soil. Later worked as a coach with England Under-21s.
Sir Bobby Charlton
Sir Bobby Charlton - 106 caps
His England goals record of 49 stood for 47 years before being broken by Rooney in 2015. A key member of the 1966 World Cup -winning side and one of Manchester United’s most celebrated players, he netted four international hat-tricks.
Frank Lampard
Frank Lampard - 106 caps
A second generation international after his father, Frank Snr , won two caps. Lampard was an influential figure despite constant debates over his partnership with Gerrard and found the net on 29 occasions, including nine penalties.
Billy Wright
Billy Wright - 105 caps
England’s first centurion in 1959, Wright shared the pitch with 137 team-mates over the course of his international career. An ever-present streak of 70 consecutive appearances from 1951-1959 remains a national record, and he shares the captaincy mark of 90 with Moore .
