Carrick’s men have recovered well from their opening-day disaster at Hull, beating Ipswich 5-2 and Sabah 4-0 at this venue either side of a slightly unlucky 2-2 draw at Everton. Thursday’s Champions League success may have come against limited opposition but it was still another chance for United to display fine fluency going forward.
Matheus Cunha, Bruno Fernandes and Benjamin Sesko all finished off good moves to score in the first half of an encouraging performance, which also saw Youri Tielemans growing in confidence.
“I think it was a good performance; individually, collectively, pretty much all the way through the game, from start to finish,” declared Carrick. “Boys that started, boys that came on the pitch, clean sheet, some goals and some good, exciting football. It was a good night all round.”
