Everton vs Crystal Palace
Everton to beat Crystal Palace @ 23/20
Everton ended up 13th last season after picking up just three points from their final seven games and David Moyes will be desperate for a good start to ease any lingering concerns. The positive news for the Toffees is they have an impressive home record against Crystal Palace , with eight wins and four draws - all which finished 1-1 - from their last 12 meetings on Merseyside .
Palace had a mixed 2025-26 campaign, winning the Community Shield and Conference League but finishing 15th in the league. Highly-rated new boss Pierre Sage has lost France defender Maxence Lacroix to Chelsea but still has plenty of quality in his squad as the Eagles look to build on their record-breaking success under Oliver Glasner.
Ipswich vs Sunderland
Ipswich to draw with Sunderland @ 11/5
Promoted Ipswich failed to win any of their opening 10 matches the last time they were in the Premier League and new manager Gary O’Neil will hope for much better this season. The Tractor Boys did the double over Sunderland the last time they met, in the 2023-24 Championship season, while the past nine encounters between these two have finished either 1-0, 1-1, 2-0 or 2-1, so another close clash could be on the cards.
Sunderland made the most of a flying start following promotion last term to finish seventh and quality for Europe , but Regis Le Bris has his work cut out to repeat that success in the Black Cats' second campaign back in the top flight.
Brentford vs Tottenham
Brentford to draw with Tottenham and BTTS @ 16/5
All eyes are on Tottenham to see if their major summer spending spree pays dividends heading into the new season. Spurs have spent the last two seasons in relegation fights but have splashed out on the likes of Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes and Jan Paul van Hecke in a bid to make waves at the other end of the table under Roberto De Zerbi.
Brentford impressed in Keith Andrews’ first season in charge, and could have finished higher than ninth but for drawing eight of their final 11 league and cup games. The Bees have beaten Spurs just once in 10 Premier League meetings but have drawn four of their five home games against their London rivals in that time, which could be a pointer to this weekend.
Brighton vs Aston Villa
Brighton to draw with Aston Villa and BTTS @ 16/5
Villa may have lost several key players from the squad that finished fourth and won the Europa League last term, including Morgan Rogers, Youri Tielemans and Lucas Digne , but will at least start the new season with what has been one of their favourite away trips.
Since 2016, Villa have lost just once in nine visits to the Amex Stadium while claiming five victories - including 4-3 last season and 3-0 the campaign before. Bearing in mind Brighton have only lost eight of 43 home matches in the last two years, that is some feat by the Midlanders .
Brighton have also bid farewell to some influential players this summer, and van Hecke and Danny Welbeck may not be the only ones to depart. With all those squad changes in mind, combined with Villa's recent dominance at the Amex , a draw this weekend may not be the worst result for either club.
