Kylian Mbappe and Harry Kane are favourites to become the first player to win two World Cup Golden Boots but they face stiff competition for the top goalscorer award this summer from a star-studded field.

Mbappe is 6/1 with BOYLE Sports to finish top of the scoring charts again while Argentina ace Lionel Messi , whose brace in that 2022 final took his tournament tally to seven in Qatar , is 12/1 third favourite.

Who will win the 2026 World Cup?

In between them is England captain Kane, who is 7/1 to add to the Golden Boot he won at Russia 2018 when he netted six times as the Three Lions reached the semi-finals.

Mbappe , Kane and Messi are all heading into 2026 finals in fine scoring touch and their respective chances could depend on how deep their countries go in the tournament, with 23 of the 28 players who have won or shared the Golden Boot coming from teams that reached at least the semi-finals.

Here we take a closer look at the 2026 World Cup Golden Boot Odds.

Kylian Mbappe is the 6/1 favourite to win the 2026 World Cup Golden Boot but faces competition from the likes of Harry Kane (7/1) and Lionel Messi (12/1).

Kylian Mbappe

Kylian Mbappe @ 6/1

The France captain walked off with the award four years ago in Qatar , scoring eight goals in total including becoming only the second man to score a World Cup final hat-trick. Despite being hit by injury towards the end of the campaign, Mbappe scored 48 goals in just 50 appearances for Real Madrid and France this season. A true global star who will take some stopping.

Harry Kane

Harry Kane @ 7/1

England’s highest goalscorer arrives at the competition on the back of a record-breaking season for Bayern Munich , proving himself as one of the best players in the world. He finished with 66 goals in 56 games for club and country while helping Bayern claim a domestic treble. The 32-year-old was the Golden Boot winner in 2018 and this could be his last shot at leading England to glory.

Lionel Messi

Messi , who turns 39 midway through the tournament, has never won the World Cup Golden Boot but four more goals would see him break Miroslav Klose’s all-time record of 16 goals at finals . The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner was the leading scorer in the CONMEBOL qualifying section with eight goals, while he has struck 12 times in 14 MLS games for Inter Miami this season.

The Real Sociedad captain netted a Group E joint-high six goals in qualifying as Spain went unbeaten through six games, winning five. He also struck the winning goal to help La Roja be crowned European champions with a 2-1 victory over England in the final in Berlin two years ago . He will once again be relied on to score the goals.

Spain are the 4/1 favourites for 2026 World Cup glory but France (9/2), England (6/1), Brazil and holders Argentina (8/1) will also be fancying their chances.

Erling Haaland

Erling Haaland @ 14/1

A goalscoring behemoth in Europe for Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City for almost a decade, Haaland finally gets the chance to show his talent on the world stage. His pace, power and finishing will scare opposition defences and he is likely to fire Norway into the knockout stages.

Haaland’s tally of 16 goals in qualifying was four more than any other player on the planet, and he found the back of the net in all eight of Norway’s matches, including a five-goal salvo against Moldova. His goals helped Norway qualify for their first World Cup in 28 years but he has a tough test to claim the Golden Boot on his tournament debut.

Lamine Yamal

Lamine Yamal @ 16/1

Yamal enjoyed a breakout tournament at Euro 2024 , helping Spain to glory, and has since solidified his position as one of the game’s biggest talents. He possesses a lethal left foot, can run past defenders like they are not there and has an eye for a pass. The build-up to the tournament was ruined by a hamstring injury, but he should recover to be one of the stars of the show.
