Wounded Bison looking to deny Rahm title hat-trick

DeChambeau must put his Open frustrations behind him if he is to have a chance of denying Rahm a third successive LIV Golf individual title at this week’s UK-based event. DeChambeau looked set to mount a challenge for a maiden Open victory last week but a controversial two-shot penalty after the second round derailed his bid.

The 33-year-old American would have been a shot off the lead heading into the weekend but the penalty, for inadvertently improving his swing path by trampling down the rough behind his ball, pretty much ended his challenge at Royal Birkdale .

DeChambeau was six shots adrift of champion Ryan Fox in the final reckoning and was far from happy with events on Merseyside , but ' Bison ' has little time to wallow in his disappointment with LIV Golf’s UK edition beginning on Thursday.

DeChambeau has won two of the nine LIV Golf tournaments in 2026 and we’re backing the 32-year-old, who will no doubt be fired up after his Open experiences, to notch up another victory at JCB Golf and Country club near Hemel Hempstead.

The two-time US Open winner is 13/2 with BOYLE Sports to finish top of the 57-player field, with current points leader Rahm favourite @ 7/2 as he bids to remain LIV Golf's top dog.

The Spaniard , like DeChambeau , has won twice this season, in Hong Kong and Mexico City , while he has enjoyed plenty of past success in the UK event, claiming the individual title in 2024 and leading Legion XIII t o victory here in the last two team events.

The Ryder Cup star is also coming off a disappointing weekend at The Open , finishing 46th after a final-day 74, but he can seal a third consecutive LIV Golf Individual Championship title with a victory this week, depending on where DeChambeau finishes.

Rahm said: “To wrap it up this early, I still need to win and I still need to expect a bad week from Bryson , which based on how he's been playing last week most likely won't happen. I would expect a fight from him and other players, and I still need to perform at my best to finish it off.”

Torque GC captain Joaquin Niemann could also have a big say in proceedings. The Chilean , who is third in the points standings behind Rahm and DeChambeau , is the defending individual champion at JCB and also finished joint second behind the Spaniard in 2024. Niemann is 15/2 to defend his UK crown but by no means the only threat to the top two.

Home hope Tyrrell Hatton is 9/1 as he seeks to build on his Andalucia victory last time while Virginia champion Lucas Herbert is one of four players @ 20/1. Herbert’s confidence should be sky high after mounting a genuine challenge to win his first major at The Open .

The 30-year-old Australian was two shots clear at the midway point after carding a stunning 62 on Friday, tying the major championship record. He would have claimed the record outright but missed a five-foot birdie putt on the final hole.

Herbert was unable to remain clear of the back, carding back-to-back 71s over the weekend to finish four shots behind winner Fox but sixth place was comfortably his best result at a major and he could be one to watch this week.
