We’re previewing the RBC Canadian Open as the PGA Tour season continues after last week’s Memorial Tournament. Matt Fitzpatrick to rediscover winning touch?
Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy may be missing but the stars are still out in force for the RBC Canadian Open, where Matt Fitzpatrick will go in search of his fourth win of 2026. The Canadian Open has not always been an automatic selection for the PGA Tour’s leading players and the world’s current top three Scheffler, McIlroy, who was winner here in 2019 and 2022, and Cameron Young are among those who have decided to take a break ahead of the US Open.
However, there will still be plenty of quality on show at TPC Toronto with top 10 players Fitzpatrick , Collin Morikawa , Justin Rose and Tommy Fleetwood in action, along with PGA Championship winner Aaron Rai, Viktor Hovland and five-time major champion Brooks Koepka.
English duo Fitzpatrick and Fleetwood are joint favourites with BOYLE Sports @ 10/1. Fitzpatrick has gone off the boil somewhat since his stunning run in March and April when he recorded victories at the Valspar Championship, RBC Heritage and Zurich Classic as well as second spot at the Players.
After that purple patch, he has finished tied for 52nd at the Truist, 14th at the PGA Championship and 36th at the Memorial over the weekend , and he will be hoping to rediscover his form on his TPC Toronto debut. Ryder Cup team-mate Fleetwood , meanwhile, has had a steady season to date but has only recorded two top-five finishes and remains without a PGA win since his sole success at the 2025 TOUR Championship.
There are shoots of encouragement for the world number seven heading to Canada, though. His best two finishes of 2026 have come in his last three tournaments, tying for fifth at the Truist and fourth at the Memorial where he briefly led in the final stretch . Fleetwood was also was runner-up at this event in 2023 after losing a dramatic play-off to Nick Taylor , who drained a 72-foot birdie putt to become the first Canadian to win his national open in 69 years.
Burns and Clark lead American bid
The Contenders
Another Englishman, Rai , was third in the 2023 edition and he is 28/1 to win this week, having finished T19 at the Memorial in his first outing since winning the PGA Championship.
Sam Burns (12/1), Wyndham Clark (14/1), Morikawa and Brooks (both 22/1) are expected to lead the American charge north of the border, while reigning champion Ryan Fox of New Zealand is 50/1 to repeat his win from 12 months ago.
Clark could be the best option from that group of players. He had a mediocre start to the year, missing the cut in three of his eight tournaments with a best finish of 16th, but his last two outings have seen him win the CJ Cup Byron Nelson and finish third at the Memorial.
Burns was fourth at Muirfield Village as his hunt for a first title since 2023 continues , although he came agonisingly close at the Canadian Open last year. He lost in a play-off to Fox on the fourth extra hole on TPC Toronto’s North Course , which was rated as one of the easiest par-70s on the 2025 calendar.
