Our Royal Ascot Tuesday tips begin with a bang, as three of the first four races are Group One contests.
Day one of Britain’s leading Flat festival also features a Group Two event for juveniles , a Listed-level affair and two wide-open handicaps with big fields.
14:30 Tip
14:30 QUEEN ANNE STAKES – DOCKLANDS @ 13/2
Harry Eustace’s globetrotting star saves his best performances for Ascot’s straight mile, with three course victories supplemented by several fine efforts in defeat. Since beating Rosallion by a nose in this race 12 months ago, Docklands has produced a number of quality performances at Group One level, most recently finishing a close-up third in Hong Kong.
Notable Speech is the right favourite after his BOYLE Sports Lockinge Stakes romp, but he was only fourth in this race a year ago after encountering a troubled passage and at more rewarding odds, Docklands looks a sound investment to at least get in the money.
15:05 Tip
15:05 COVENTRY STAKES – CONFUCIUS @ 15/8
This 1.7million guineas purchase, who is out of former Cheveley Park Stakes scorer Millisle , is backed to provide Aidan O’Brien with a record-extending 12th victory in this prestigious two-year-old contest after bolting up on his second start at Naas .
15:40 Tip
15:40 KING CHARLES III STAKES – NIGHT RAIDER @ 6/1
Karl Burke’s charge has never been short of natural speed, in fact he led for a long way in this race last year, but that over-exuberance tended to be his undoing, with his early exertions inevitably taking their toll late in the day.
However, since being gelded, this season he has appeared more tractable, with a front-running win at Newmarket followed by success in the Temple Stakes at Haydock , where he showed a different side to his game by coming from behind to mow down American Affair, last year’s winner here.
If that raw talent can again be harnessed, Night Raider should be heavily involved in the finish.
16:20 Tip
16:20 ST JAMES’S PALACE STAKES – BOW ECHO (NAP) @ 8/11
Trainer George Boughey has never made any secret of the regard in which he holds this Night Of Thunder colt and following an unbeaten juvenile campaign, he passed his Classic test in spectacular style when rocketing clear of the opposition in last month’s 2000 Guineas.
That form looks watertight, with the runner-up Gstaad and the third home Distant Storm going on to finish first and second in the Irish Guineas . There is a school of thought that being a larger model of the pair, Gstaad may be open to more improvement than Bow Echo and could therefore bridge the near three-length gap.
However, Boughey appears adamant Bow Echo is better than ever ahead of a mouth-watering rematch and having sidestepped a trip to the Curragh to ensure he lines up at the Royal meeting fresh, he is expected to come out on top again.
17:00 Tip
17:00 ASCOT STAKES – REACHING HIGH @ 9/4
The royal runner endured a nightmare passage when a beaten favourite in this race 12 months ago and while he has not been seen in competitive action since, expect Willie Mullins to have him fully revved up for his return, as the master of Closutton goes for a fifth win in the marathon affair.
17:35 Tip
17:35 WOLFERTON STAKES – HAATEM @ 6/1
Big-spending owners Wathnan Racing target this meeting above all others and this five-year-old is chasing a Royal Ascot h at-trick, having followed up a 2024 Jersey Stakes success with victory in this event last term.
18:10 Tip
18:10 COPPER HORSE STAKES – VALIANCY @ 2/1
Wathnan have another strong hand in the day one finale and we’re hoping retained rider James Doyle again chooses right from their three entries, with this William Haggas- trained four-year-old looking to follow up last month’s cosy Hamilton triumph.
