5.30 pm - Kim Muir Handicap Chase Tips & Preview
Like any Cheltenham Festival handicap, the Kim Muir has its share of Irish plots hidden in plain sight. But there are British plot jobs too, and just beneath the surface it is possible to see that Bowtogreatness ‘s entire season has been built around spring staying handicaps in general, and the Cheltenham Festival in particular.
Bowtogreatness has always looked a stayer, but connections waited until Aintree last season to step him up in distance. There he shaped as well as winner Midnight River over 3m1f, with a sketchy jump at the last costing him dear.
He reappeared in deep ground at Newbury in December, seemingly not fit, and then really caught the eye in a hot novices’ handicap chase here in January. Back at 3m last time, Bowtogreatness tanked through a Premier handicap at Kempton, but just paid for a sweeping move around the field late on and finished third.
Bowtogreatness has course experience, remains unexposed as a stayer and is now bang-on fit after his Kempton run. He had also been doubly entered at Ascot the week before, suggesting the run was needed to put the final touches on his spring prep. The big day is surely coming, and it might be in the Kim Muir.
