Growth In Popularity of F1
Formula one is one of the fastest growing sports in the world right now. The sport has been around for over 75 years but in recent years the viewership has skyrocketed.
A big part of the sport’s growth is the Netflix series ‘Drive to Survive’ which gave viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the F1 drivers and management. Let’s also not forget that it is a high-speed, high-octane sport so the action itself makes for great entertainment beyond just the characters involved.
Mexico City Grand Prix Track
This weekend, the Mexican Grand Prix will be taking place for the 23rd time. After a two decades-long hiatus, the Mexican Grand Prix made its long-awaited return to the F1 calendar in 2015.
Drivers will navigate around the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez track over 71 laps totalling 4.3 kilometres.
The return to Mexico has been great for F1 as it boosted the sport’s global reach. It has also been great for Mexico which had long been looking to re-establish its place on the racing map.
The Mexico City track contains 17 corners for drivers to negotiate while there are two DRS zones where drivers will have the best opportunity to overtake their competitors.

Max Verstappen
Verstappen is the clear favourite for this race, and it is easy to see why. The Dutch native has the most victories in this event with four, a mark he shares with Jim Clark. Verstappen also won the previous edition of Mexico’s Grand Prix last year when he beat out Lewis Hamilton for top spot.
As the betting suggests at odds of 8/13 the Red Bull driver will be hard to beat come Sunday evening.
Charles Leclerc
Leclerc is in good form coming into this race after last week’s United States GP in Austin, Texas. The Monaco man came into the US GP in a position of 12th on the grid but fought back admirably to finish in 3rd place.
Ferrari’s top driver put in a bad performance in qualifying for this race last season but if he can fix those mistakes then a podium finish is on the cards here. Leclerc can be backed at 9/2.
Sergio Perez
Perez is from Mexico so he will be doing all that he can to finish top of the podium on Sunday. The Red Bull driver finished 3rd in Mexico City last year behind teammate Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton.
Speed on the straights seems to be the name of the game on this Mexican GP track which favours the Red Bull drivers. A car advantage over all but Verstappen makes Perez look like a great value here at his current odds of 5/1
Lewis Hamilton
Hamilton has struggled to perform up to his high racing standards in recent months. Red Bull and Max Verstappen just have the better car at the moment and until Mercedes can close that gap Hamilton will be left frustrated in these races.
At Austin last week he was overtaken by Verstappen with six laps remaining when he looked at one point like he was going to pull of an unlikely win. The Brit is still one of the best drivers in F1 but he has little in the way of a margin for error nowadays with the cars he is competing against. You can back Hamilton at odds of 10/1.
Verstappen might be the driver most likely to win this race but Perez seems the best value in the betting, so Perez is the pick to finish top of the podium here.
Prediction: Sergio Perez to win @ 5/1
