Only three teams remain unbeaten after a tricky start to the NFL season for punters, but we are hopefully reaching the stage where it should become easier to sort the wheat from the chaff.
We’re siding with a trio of teams to cover the spread in our NFL Week 5 predictions , which would provide us with an 11/2 treble if all prove correct.
Packers vs Bears
CHICAGO BEARS -2.5 POINTS TO WIN AT GREEN BAY PACKERS @ 10/11
Not even a Week 2 injury to star quarterback Caleb Williams has managed to stop Chicago , who crushed the Philadelphia Eagles 27-7 with Case Keenum in the pocket and then thumped the New York Jets 23-12 with Tyson Bagent as their third signal caller of the season. It says a lot that impressive head coach Ben Johnson is prepared to put his faith in the relatively untested Bagent ahead of proven veteran Keenum and his judgement is good enough for us.
Of course, having a red-hot running game, strong receiving options and an in-form defence all helps as the Bears head to Lambeau Field as favourites for the first time in 20 years and we feel they are in far better shape than Green Bay.
The Packers aren’t far behind in the NFC North at 2-2 but do look flattered by that basic record, having so far suffered heavy defeats against the Minnesota Vikings and the Atlanta Falcons , while just scraping past poor opponents in the Jets and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Saints vs Vikings
MINNESOTA VIKINGS -2.5 POINTS TO WIN AT NEW ORLEANS SAINTS @ 20/23
Opinions are divided on the merits of Minnesota’s 4-0 record, mainly because they haven’t exactly set the world alight on offence. However, the running game looks rock-solid and we believe QB Kyler Murray will get better as he continues to recover from a Week 2 concussion, so that should be good enough to capitalise on having what is currently the hardest defence to score points against in the entire league.
The Saints began the season brightly enough with plucky performances against the Detroit Lions , the Baltimore Ravens and the Las Vegas Raiders , but Monday night’s 45-24 drubbing at home to the Falcons had alarm bells ringing.
Steelers vs Colts
PITTSBURGH STEELERS -2.5 POINTS TO BEAT INDIANAPOLIS COLTS @ 5/6
It isn’t easy to assess how good the Steelers are based on a 2-2 record, but we’re hoping it is no coincidence that promising wins over the Falcons and the Cincinnati Bengals came at home, while disappointing defeats versus the New England Patriots and the Cleveland Browns were on the road.
Getting back to Acrisure Stadium will be a welcome boost for 42-year-old QB Aaron Rodgers , who will fancy his chances against a moderate Indianapolis defence. The Colts are chasing a third straight win but only just scraped past a badly out of sorts Houston Texans outfit at home and had the good fortune to face a simply awful third-string QB in Athan Kaliakmanis when beating the Washington Commanders in London .
