The Bears got off to a flying start in their bid to build on last year’s 11-6 record and division title triumph, thumping the Carolina Panthers 59-37 on the road. Chicago led 31-24 at half-time before taking charge, scoring four more touchdowns after the break. After the explosive offensive performance in week 1, many are tipping the Bears as dark horse Super Bowl contenders this season.
D’Andre Swift bagged three of their six rushing touchdowns, while that impressive ground game opened the way for Caleb Williams to throw for 269 yards and a couple of TDs. A defensive backfield which was hit badly by off-season departures did struggle to fend off the Panthers, but that should only convince Johnson to stay committed to his attacking gameplan.
Swift ran for 124 yards against Carolina and picked up 90 on the ground when last facing Minnesota, so 20/23 for him to post over 63.5 here has obvious appeal from the Bears vs Vikings odds.
Minnesota Vikings form guide
The Vikings laboured for much of last year, but a closing run of five straight wins at least helped them finish in profit at 9-8. This season started badly when new quarterback Kyler Murray suffered a game-ending concussion in the opening quarter of a home clash with the Green Bay Packers.
Minnesota trailed 22-10 in the third quarter of that contest, but back-up QB Carson Wentz then rolled back the years to inspire an incredible rally which yielded 29 unanswered points and a 39-22 triumph. Defensive coordinator Brian Flores also deserves plenty of credit for that comeback, dialling up a series of blitzes which put the Packers under all sorts of pressure.
