After dropping from a 15-2 record in 2024 to 9-8 last term, there were obvious fears that Detroit’s Super Bowl window had slammed shut. Nobody can underestimate an offence led by efficient quarterback Jared Goff that includes livewire running back Jahmyr Gibbs, elite wide receiver Amon-Ra St Brown and top-notch tight end Sam LaPorta.
The Lions lacked bite on defence for much of the 2025 campaign, though, and have continued to struggle in that department again this season. Home wins over the New Orleans Saints and the New York Jets were cancelled out by away defeats against the Buffalo Bills and the Carolina Panthers.
Detroit did put together a fine all-round display to beat the Arizona Cardinals 45-21 on the road prior to a bye week, so they still have everything to play for at 3-2. No team has rushed for fewer yards than the Packers this term, with just 359 gained on the ground in six matches, for an average of under 60 per game. Being without star running back Josh Jacobs due to off-field issues has severely hampered Green Bay, and while he is now eligible to return after missing the first six games, it remains to be seen how game-ready he will be.
Without him, the Packers lost two of their first three fixtures, but they have since rallied bravely to complete a hat-trick of victories. A 17-14 triumph at Tampa Bay was nothing to write home about, but there was a lot to like about the way Green Bay crushed the Chicago Bears 31-7 at Lambeau Field before seeing off the Dallas Cowboys 23-13 on home turf.
That success has been largely built on a hard-working defence, which will be severely tested at this indoor stadium, but QB Jordan Love has come to the fore when required in the absence of a meaningful running game, with only the Rams’ Matthew Stafford and the Texans’ CJ Stroud passing for more yards.
Love has been helped by the form of second-season wide receiver Matthew Golden, who has only once failed to reach three figures in receiving yards in the last four games. His biggest outings have come at home, but the fast indoor track at Ford Field should suit his deep threat.
