With the new NFL season fast approaching, we’re taking a look at some of the top players expected to shine this term.
Punters can bet on who will lead the way in a series of individual markets throughout the oncoming campaign and here are our selections for three of the most popular categories:
Most Passing Yards
MOST PASSING YARDS: JARED GOFF @ 8/1
If Goff does manage to come out on top in this department, he certainly wouldn’t be winning out of turn, having been runner-up in each of the past three seasons. The Detroit Lions quarterback trailed only Tua Tagovailoa in 2023, Joe Burrow two years ago and Matthew Stafford last term, with a highest mark of 4,629 yards and a lowest tally of 4,564 during that period.
This will be the Lions ’ sixth season under head coach Dan Campbell, so it would be a surprise to see them move away from the attacking approach he has consistently adopted thus far. Goff will again have several potent weapons to utilise in a well-balanced wide receiver cover, backed up by versatile running back Jahmyr Gibbs improving year on year in terms of his receptions and receiving yards.
Efforts have been made to fortify an offensive line which was slightly below par last season and everything is in place for another productive passing game.
Most Receiving Yards
MOST RECEIVING YARDS: JA’MARR CHASE @ 6/1
Assuming Goff and the Lions go well, number one wide receiver Amon-Ra St Brown is a solid each-way bet at 10/1 in this category after being among the front-runners for the past few years. However, Cincinnati Bengals star Chase is just preferred to regain a title he claimed in 2024.
The 26-year-old’s numbers fell from 1,708 yards that season to 1,412 last term, which led to a drop down to fourth place in the table, but that was largely due to the injury problems suffered by QB Burrow. If Burrow can stay healthy this time around, you can bet your bottom dollar he will again be looking for his former college team-mate at LSU as the first option on most passing plays.
There was a slight scare for Chase fans when he limped off the practice field this week but he later insisted that it was just a minor tweak and his durability over the past few years has been second to none.
Most Rushing Yards
MOST RUSHING YARDS: JAMES COOK @ 13/2
Veteran warhorse Derrick Henry should be thereabouts once more for Baltimore, Jonathan Taylor is expected to impress again in Indianapolis and the explosive Bijan Robinson will be asked to carry Atlanta’s offence, but we’re backing Cook to retain his crown.
Since being selected in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, the former Georgia Bulldogs national championship winner has gone from strength to strength in the pro ranks. After twice getting into four figures, last season’s haul of 1,621 yards topped the rushing stats and was the most gained by a Buffalo Bills player outside of the marks set by OJ Simpson back in 1973 and 1975.
Joe Brady’s promotion from offensive coordinator to head coach means Buffalo should stick with the same style of play which led them to 12-5 last term, following a 13-4 record the season before. Playing at a brand new $2.1billion stadium should only help inspire the Bills to another successful campaign and Cook will be at the heart of their latest Super Bowl push.
