In this post we have odds To Make Europe Ryder Cup Team as we get closer to the 2023 Ryder Cup, one of the sport’s most prestigious events.
There are 12 spots up for grabs on Team Europe for the 2023 Ryder Cup. Players can qualify via three routes for this year’s European Ryder Cup team. Those are based on their ranking in the European Points List, their ranking on the World Points List and as a Captain’s Pick.
The top three players on the Team Europe points list will qualify automatically for the team. Then the top three players on the World Points List will qualify automatically for the team. If a player is one of the top three on the European Points List along with being top three on the World Points List then the next player in the rankings on the World Points List will gain automatic qualification for the European Ryder Cup team.
The remaining six spots on the team will be decided by Team Europe Captain Luke Donald with his six Captain’s Picks.
The 2023 Masters Champion currently has an automatic qualification spot courtesy of his second place standing on the European Points List with 3417.23 points after the conclusion of the Open Championship where he finished T2nd.
The only way that Rahm wouldn’t be on the European Team would be if he gets injured or falls out with the captain or team between now and the start of the competition.
The Northern Irishman currently has an automatic qualification spot as he tops the standings on the European Points List with 4033.5 points after his T2nd place finish in this year’s Open Championship.
Like Rahm, McIlroy will be playing for Team Europe at this year’s Ryder Cup barring injury or a fall-out with the team/captain.
Fleetwood moved up one place to 5th in the World Points List after his T10 finish at The Open. This means he currently occupies an automatic qualification spot as the third player in the World Points List that has not gained automatic qualification already through the European Points List.
Whether through automatic qualification or as a Captain’s pick, Fleetwood will make the European Ryder Cup team barring injury or a fall out with the captain as he is one of the few marquee players on one of the weakest contingent of European players we have seen in a long long time.
The Englishman currently holds an automatic qualification spot courtesy of his 4th place ranking on the World Points List. That ranking makes him the 2nd ranked player on the World Points List that has not gained automatic qualification through the European Points List.
Like the players mentioned above, Hatton will make this European team. It will likely be through automatic qualification but if he were to miss out on that he is nailed on to be a Captain’s Pick.
Hovland currently holds an automatic qualification spot thanks to his ranking as 3rd on the World Points List.
Barring injury or an unforeseen fall out with the Captain Hovland will be a key player for Europe in this year’s Ryder Cup.
Fitzpatrick doesn’t currently occupy one of the automatic qualification spots although he could gain an automatic spot via the World Points List if he performs well in his next few outings.
Whether through automatic qualification or Captain’s Picks Fitzpatrick will almost certainly be on this European team.
Lowry doesn’t currently occupy one of the automatic qualification spots. His best chance to gain automatic qualification is through the World Points List where he currently ranks 8th.
As the betting odds suggest there is little doubt that Lowry will earn a spot on this team. At the moment it looks like his spot will likely come via one of Captain Luke Donald’s six Captain’s Picks.
The Englishman does not occupy an automatic qualification spot as of now but with little talent among the European ranks he is likely to be one of Captain Luke Donald’s picks.
I do think the odds are a little shorter here than what they probably should be. Rose has missed the cut in 3 of his last 4 events played including two missed cuts in the last two major championships. If that poor form continues Donald will have to have a serious think about if Rose deserves to make this team.
Straka is currently 7th on the World Points List which puts him just outside of an automatic qualification spot.
If the Austrian doesn’t earn an automatic qualification spot he should be one of Captain Luke Donald’s Captain’s Picks having shown strong form this year.
MacIntyre currently occupies an automatic qualification spot as the third ranked player on the European Points List.
Even if MacIntrye gets overtaken for an automatic qualification spot he should still make the team as a Captain’s Pick.
Power is 12th on the World Points List and although he likely won’t earn an automatic qualification spot he should be one of Luke Donald’s picks as long as he shows decent form in his next few outings.
The Polish golfer could gain an automatic qualification spot with a strong finish to the season as he currently sits just outside the automatic qualification spots at 5th in the European Points List.
Meronk is best known for his win at the 2022 Irish Open.
