Scotland v South Africa Preview From Jonathan Joseph
I Hate South Africa’s Bomb Squad but It’s So Effective
I hate it, but it's so effective. I'm just a big fan of fluid, attacking, moving the ball, great shape, great attack. That’s the spectacle I want to watch. South Africa with the 6-2 or the 7-1.
It is so effective for them and I completely understand why they do it. You know, they just absolutely batter the forwards and then there's space to just chuck it wide without too much shape or creativity. What they do is remarkable. They have some unbelievable athletes in that pack. So I suppose they think, ‘Why change it?’
South African fans absolutely love them for it. They won’t care if it's a bit boring. They're a happy nation and it works really well for them. It's very hard to stop as we've seen over the years.
Rules on Replacements Should Not Change as the 6-2 Split Can Cost Teams
No, because it can still hinder you too. When they go 7-1, I just think that is such a risk. They've been quite lucky that it’s not really cost them, but I do think at some point it might do if they get the wrong injury. That's the sort of risk-reward, isn't it?
Scotland Have Confidence and Their Attacking Structure Is Better Than Springboks
They've got a bit of confidence. Glasgow won the URC down in South Africa, which must mean a huge lot for them. They've always struggled a bit upfront. That's the problem. Scotland play a really exciting brand.
But when it comes to South Africa, I just don't think they quite have the manpower up front potentially to match it. And you can't win a game without at least being on par with the opposite pack.
Scotland’s attacking structure is better than South Africa's, but South Africa have such a big pack that can end up bullying you.
Finn Russell is brilliant but he needs a little bit of momentum for him to be able to play his game. If he's on the back foot, there'll be errors. There'll be a lot of mistakes out of him because he will still try and find that pass and make that miracle play.
