Wales v France Preview
Wales Form
Wales came into this tournament following their Pool C victory at the last RWC with four victories from four matches including an impressive 40-6 win against Australia. However, they were then eliminated at the Quarter-Final stage 17-29 against Argentina.
Wales opened up their Six Nations campaign putting in a spirited performance second-half performance against Scotland which saw them grab 2 losing bonus points in a 26-27 defeat. Their second game came against England where they lost narrowly on a 16-14 scoreline for which they earned a losing bonus point.
However, in Round 3 they were hammered 31-7 against a rampant Ireland with their 7 points coming from a penalty try in the 42 nd minute.
v France Form
Head Coach Fabien Galthié has turned French fortunes since being appointed in 2019 including a Grand Slam success during the 2022 Six Nations. At the RWC France topped their Pool which included an impressive 27-13 victory against New Zealand. However, heartbreak came at the Quarter-Final stage when they narrowly lost 28-29 to eventual winners South Africa.
Plenty were tipping France for flowers this tournament following their disappointment at the Rugby World Cup. However, they were defeated in France by Ireland 17-38 in the opening round before returning to winning ways with a narrow 16-20 win over Scotland.
France floundered in their most recent game against Italy drawing 13-13 and were very fortunate to come away without losing.
Wales Attack v France Defence
Wales have the second lowest Points Total with 47 points 10 points more than Italy. However, Wales also have the joint second most tries in the tournament with 7 along with Scotland which is less than Ireland with 15.
They come up against a French side who have disappointed during this whole Six Nations campaign with 67 points conceded an average of 22 points conceded per match which is the joint second-best defence. Their most recent draw with Italy saw them concede 13 points and narrowly escape defeat.
v France Attack Wales Defence
France are largely known for their free-flowing attacking rugby, but during this tournament, they’ve yet to show that ability with 50 points total only 3 points more than Wales and 13 more than Italy. Their 5 try total from the opening 3 games is only more than Italy’s 4
Wales have the second worst defence in the tournament with 74 points an average of 25 points per match, which is only two fewer conceded than Italy who have conceded 76 points with both sides after playing the top-two Ireland and Scotland.

Key Players
Alex Mann– Wales
With Wales struggling to put points on the board, their main try threat has been Cardiff Flanker Alex Mann (22) who only made his debut for Wales on 3 February 2024 against Scotland, coming off the bench and scoring a try. He then followed that up with a second try coming seven days later in his second Wales appearance, a 16-14 loss to England at Twickenham. He looks to be one of the most promising members of this new-look Welsh squad.
Gaël Fickou – France
One of the few solid performers from their draw against Italy was Racing Centre Gaël Fickou who did well when his centre partner Jonathan Danty was sent off. Had it not been for his defensive work, Italy could have had their first-ever victory in France.
Wales v France Prediction & Best Bet
Prediction: Wales 10-20 France
Wales are in a period of transition and while they were dominated by Ireland in their last game, they were beaten by a sole score against Scotland and England which shows they remain competitive in most games.
France seems to still be suffering from the backlash of their RWC disappointment and the loss of their captain Dupont to the Sevens game. While they got out of jail in their draw against Italy, they should be well up for this game to show they remain a serious outfit.
Best Bet: France To Win Both Halves By 4 Points Or More 5/2
