This looks tricky with most of the runners making their chase debut after an absence. Nicky Henderson's Laughing John should have a good future at this new discipline, while Dan Skelton's Just Golden also needs a close look on his switch to this sphere. However, it might be worth siding with STRONG RUN, who was a progressive dual winner over hurdles last season and is out of a half-sister to a high-class chaser. The others on the shortlist are Kel Du Large and They Want Me.[David Moon] Show less
Spotlight: Irish point winner on heavy ground; finished second or third in seven in his eight starts under rules but was beaten 28l in his final two hurdle runs last season; still early days but he needs improvement switched to fences on his return.
Spotlight: Made it 2-2 in hurdle handicaps with a clearcut win in big field at Wincanton (2m4f, good to soft) in February; well held when favourite at Punchestown in April, but that was a valuable race and he was reported to have finished lame; should have a good future at this new discipline and and he's an interesting contender switched to chasing on his return; cheekpieces worn last time are removed.
Spotlight: Dual bumper and dual hurdle winner; whipped round and unseated at the start in final hurdle run for Jane Williams last season, but he went close in a Warwick handicap (2m5f, good to soft) on his penultimate outing; only 1lb higher here and needs watching in market on his chase/stable debut.
Spotlight: Sister to a smart hurdler and she's out of a half-sister to high-class chaser Strong Flow; bumper winner who made it 2-5 over hurdles when making all in a mares' novice at Fontwell (2m5f, good to soft) in April; that was a good opportunity but she was progressive over hurdles and looks on a fair mark now switched to chasing; respected on her return.
Spotlight: Lightly raced 6yo who added to his bumper win when making all in a maiden hurdle at Warwick (2m3f, heavy) on his penultimate run last season; this is only his second handicap and he needs a close look now switched to chasing after 227 days off.
Spotlight: Resumed his progress after wind surgery with an emphatic win over hurdles here (2m4f, good; tongue-tie added) in April; 7lb higher on this switch to fences but he's a half-brother to a useful chaser, and he ran well on soft ground on his reappearance last season; possibilities.
Spotlight: Easy winner over hurdles here (2m3f, good) in March but he flopped in his bid for a double at Perth the following month; had wind surgery since but he had a mixed record last season and this looks competitive on his chase debut; others preferred.
Spotlight: Ex-French 5yo; started off for Venetia Williams with two low-key runs last winter but he ran respectably in hurdle handicaps in final two runs last season; this is a new test at this trip on chase debut but he needs checking in market on his return.
Spotlight: Ex-Irish 7yo; won twice over hurdles for Ben Pauling last season but he ended that campaign on a low note and he was tailed off on his only previous run over fences; has bit to prove back in this sphere on his return but conditions should be ideal and he would be interesting if the market vibes are positive.
Spotlight: Started his hurdling career with two wins, but he didn't progress in that sphere and he unseated on his chase debut at Doncaster (2m3f, good) in February; still has low mileage but has bit to prove on his return and others are preferred.
Spotlight: Four-time hurdle winner who is 0-4 over fences; gave it a good shot when runner-up at Sandown (2m4f, soft) in March but he was pulled up in final run last season and others are more persuasive; tongue-tie added on return.
Spotlight: Just 1-7 over hurdles but his win came at Plumpton (2m4f, good to soft) in March and he ended last season with a good second in a Bangor handicap (2m7f, good); 2lb higher on his return but he's closely related to a French chase winner and could be dangerous if he takes to this new discipline.
Spotlight: Dual hurdle winner who stays well but he's fairly exposed in that sphere, and he started his chase career with a remote third of five at Worcester (2m7f, good to soft) two weeks ago; has something to prove after that and yard also runs Just Golden.
Spotlight: Dual hurdle winner but he was pulled up on his chase debut at Cheltenham (3m4f, good) in April 2025 and has been on the sidelines since; has something to prove after a long absence and this trip is sharper than ideal.
