Last year UNDER THE TWILIGHT followed a Windsor win with near miss at this meeting. Her hold-up style dictates that she'll need things to fall right but there are a few prominent racers drawn near to her so she could get a good pace to aim at and is worth chancing following another Windsor win. Calling A Star's fourth last time came in a Newmarket July meeting handicap which has worked out well and she's second choice ahead of Sir Garfield, who edged out recent International winner Amazing Journey at Epsom at the beginning of this month. Supreme King and unexposed handicap newcomer Lunar Melody complete the shortlist. [Andrew Sheret] Show less
Spotlight: Enhanced a good Windsor record when seeing off next-time-out winner Amazonian Dream and ten others over 6f on good to firm 16 days ago; a 5lb rise looks manageable, particularly as she went close off 4lb higher at this meeting last year; on the shortlist.
Spotlight: Took advantage of a lowly mark at Southwell in December and he has flourished since, adding two more AW wins over the winter and going in again at Salisbury (6f, soft) last month; runner-up on all three outings since and likely to give it another good shot.
Spotlight: Off the mark at the sixth attempt at Wolverhampton (6f, AW) in February and returned to form with a gutsy handicap win at Windsor (6f, good to firm) last month; bettered that form when fourth of 11 in 7f 3yo handicap at the Newmarket July meeting and the form-figures of the four who have run out of that race since are 1113; considered under Buick.
Spotlight: Reappeared with a win at Catterick (6f, good) in April and then made all at Epsom (6f, good) this month; faded late on to finish sixth of seven at Hamilton since but he can be made to look well treated on the Epsom form (beat Amazing Journey) and his yard is no stranger to sprint handicap success at this meeting.
Spotlight: Has drawn a blank since his 6f nursery debut success at Newbury last year but he did go close in 20-runner York handicap (7f, good) in May; bit below that level in two 7f outings last month but new connections went to 55,000gns to acquire him recently and Billy Loughnane has been booked.
Spotlight: Responded well to first-time cheekpieces (retained since) when successful over 7f at Kempton in December; no more than a respectable fourth back there (7f again) two months later and off since (has been gelded); Clive Cox is among the winners but others arrive with more pressing claims.
Spotlight: Made it three wins in his last five starts when seeing off five rivals at Nottingham (5f, good to firm) four weeks ago; at the top of his game but this asks a different question of one who has gained all six career successes in single-figure fields.
Spotlight: Ended his 2yo campaign with nursery wins over 6f/7f; unplaced first two runs in 2026 but back to his best in first-time cheekpieces (now replaced by the blinkers he wore on penultimate start) when second of seven at Leicester (7f, good to firm) 25 days ago.
Spotlight: Made all off today's mark on seasonal debut at Bath (5.7f, firm) in April; one of best runs since when 2l second of eight at Newbury (6f, good to firm) last week.
Spotlight: Four 7f handicap wins on good/good to firm since May; travelled well in lead for long way when third of six off this mark at Newbury (7f, good to firm) 11 days ago; three of her wins were gained at sharp Cattrerick and she could be speedy enough to cope with a drop back to 6f.
Spotlight: 500,000euros breeze-up purchase last year; left sole 2yo run behind when second over 7f at Doncaster (good to firm) on reappearance; faded over 7f on soft ground when only fifth at Carlisle since and the drop back to 6f could suit on handicap debut; unexposed contender for leading owners who target this meeting.
Spotlight: Placed six times (7f-1m2f) before making it 12th time lucky in 7f Ascot handicap (good to firm) last Friday; has a 5lb penalty and a new trip to contend with now.
Spotlight: Running well in defeat in 7f/1m handicaps for Brian Ellison this year; changed hands for 34,000gns this month; shrewd new yard quick to drop him back in trip (peak RPRs last year achieved over 6f); worth a second look in the betting.
Spotlight: Bounced back to form to win at Newmarket (6f, good) in May but two lesser runs have followed on the July Course there since.
Spotlight: This prominent-racing 9yo ended 2025 in fine fettle and picked up where he left off when second of nine on Sandown return (5f, good) 47 days ago; races off the same mark on this rather belated first visit to Goodwood.
Spotlight: Held on grimly for a first success since his 2yo days (missed 2025) at Thirsk (6f, good) six weeks ago; only 2lb higher but that form has taken a few knocks since.
Spotlight: Can miss the break and is usually ridden from off the pace; back-to-back wins over the extended 5f at Brighton this summer, the latter by a wide margin under Jude Fernandes this month; below-form third turned out under a penalty at Salisbury (6f, good to firm) four days later and another 4lb higher now.
Spotlight: All races at 6f, taking a step forward for the switch to turf when well on top from two subsequent winners in 6f Windsor maiden (good to firm) in May; a bit disappointing on last Thursday's Doncaster handicap debut but possible he needed it after ten weeks off; remains unexposed.
Spotlight: Showed career-best form when winning at Lingfield (6f, soft) under Myla Coppins last month but has failed to reproduce it twice since.
Spotlight: Lacks recent match practice and gained his sole win off 9lb lower but on the plus side his yard is enjoying a fine summer; worth a second look in the betting.
Spotlight: Won three times at two, including at Nottingham (6f, good to soft) off 3lb higher in October; he's performed below that level in his three outings this year but latest fifth over 5f here was a bit better and he should be suited by the return to 6f; no shock were he to bounce back to form with a bang.
Spotlight: Started 2026 with 6f AW wins at Newcastle (novice) and Southwell (handicap); best run on turf since when fourth of 11 to the reopposing Calling A Star at Windsor (6f, good to firm) six weeks ago; subsequently gelded and also fitted with a first-time tongue-tie.
Spotlight: Ran well for second at Musselburgh (5f, good) last month; respectable fourth of 14 at York (6f, good) since but she's yet to win from a mark in the 80s.
Spotlight: All wins for former yard came over 6f; didn't run badly on stable debut at Yarmouth but well beaten at Doncaster since (both 7f); first-time blinkers go on (regularly wore cheekpieces/visor for previous stable).
Spotlight: The handicapper has been in command since his runaway win at Leicester (6f, good) in April; respectable sixth of 19 at York (6f, good to firm) 18 days ago but suspicion he'll prove vulnerable for win purposes again.
Spotlight: Wide-margin winner of 6f AW novice as 2yo but best handicap form has come at 7f and he's finished nearer last than first over 6f on his last two starts; first-time blinkers need to help.
Spotlight: Sprung a 66-1 shock on her seasonal return at Hamilton (6f, good) in May but sixth is the best she's managed in three outings since; back on the mark she defied at Hamilton but others are more persuasive.
Spotlight: 6f winner in Ireland last term but holds weak claims on his three efforts for new stable.
