Albany winner Libertango ran another mighty race when runner-up in the Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes at Newmarket and holds leading form claims. However, it was the Queen Mary runner-up Senorita Bonita who got the better of Libertango at the July meeting and perhaps the form of that 5f Group 2 at Royal Ascot will again take precedence today. CROWNBREAKER (fifth), Alta Regina (sixth) and Shimmering Sun (seventh) failed to match the performance of Senorita Bonita in the Queen Mary but they all shaped as though they might be better over 6f, and at today's likely prices they make greater appeal than Libertango. The well-bred Crownbreaker had an obvious excuse (she stumbled) in the Molecomb and is the selection ahead of Shimmering Sun then Alta Regina, with combination forecasts and tricasts an interesting possible option for these three given their closely matched form. The supplemented Star Of State could also be firmly involved, along with Livenka and Wild Blossom.[Ben Hutton] Show less
Spotlight: Inexperience evident when runner-up to Livenka on last month's debut at Fairyhouse (6f, good) and showed the benefit of that experience when easily justifying 1-3 odds in Leopardstown maiden (6.5f, good) eight days later; it's possible she didn't beat much last time but she was certainly impressive, and has been supplemented for this race at a cost of £20,000; dam was a 2yo Group 3 winner; she's one to be interested in.
Spotlight: 400,000gns breeze-up buy who made it 2-2 when coming from a tough position to win the Group 3 Albany at Royal Ascot (6f, good to firm); close second in the Group 2 Duchess Of Cambridge at Newmarket (6f, good to firm) since and the third was a convincing Listed winner next time; leading claims.
Spotlight: All three starts over 5f; won by 10l on debut at Carlisle in May (good, good to soft in places) and, although she was a touch underwhelming in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot (good to firm), she won a quality conditions race at Glorious Goodwood (good to firm) three weeks ago; having drawn clear close home last time there is every chance that 6f will suit; contender.
Spotlight: Impressive on debut at Chepstow (6f, good to soft) in June and not beaten far when fifth to Moonrise in the Group 3 Princess Margaret at Ascot (6f, good to firm); improvement is needed but she didn't look the finished article last time, having failed to settle and flashed her tail; not ruled out.
Spotlight: Won on debut at Salisbury (5f, good) in May and kept on well for seventh in the Group 2 Queen Mary at Royal Ascot (5f, good to firm), a race that has worked out extremely well; again finished strongly when Listed runner-up to Big Negotiator at Naas (5f, good) four weeks ago and this first crack at 6f could be right up her street; firmly in calculations.
Spotlight: Her dam is from a classy family and this filly posted a cosy win on debut at Carlisle (6f, good to firm) in June; beaten about 2l by runner-up Libertango when fourth in Group 2 Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes at Newmarket (6f, good to firm) last month but that was a very creditable performance on just her second start and her powerful finish hinted that a stronger early gallop would have been favourable; not discounted.
Spotlight: Kept on well for fifth in a strong running of the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot (5f, good to firm) and got off the mark at the fourth attempt in Listed race at Deauville (5f, good to soft) last month, with a next-time-out Listed winner in second; a line can be put through her run in the Molecomb at Goodwood as she stumbled; looks a good prospect for 6f and is one to consider.
Spotlight: 240,000gns breeze-up buy who won easily on debut at Lingfield (5f, good to firm) and kept on well for sixth of 27 in a hot renewal of the Group 2 Queen Mary at Royal Ascot (5f, good to firm); disappointing in the Group 3 Princess Margaret at Ascot (6f, good to firm) last month but she started awkwardly and is better than that; retains potential at 6f; could bounce back.
Spotlight: Her six starts have yielded two wins, in a 5f novice here (good) in June and a 5f Listed race at Naas (good) four weeks ago when showing improved form in a first-time visor (retained) to make virtually all from Shimmering Sun; ran well over 6.2f in May; this Irish challenger could be a factor.
Spotlight: 320,000gns yearling who has an attractive pedigree and is a close relation to 6f Group 2 winner El Caballo; weak in the betting but won four-runner maiden at 13-2 on debut at Carlisle (5f, good to firm) in June; wind op since; takes on a vastly better calibre of opponent this afternoon but she's very unexposed and could be an exciting prospect; no surprise to see a big run.
Spotlight: Won debut at Newmarket (6f, good) in May and respectable runs in Group races since, finishing ninth in the Albany at Royal Ascot (6f, good to firm) then fifth in the Duchess Of Cambridge at Newmarket (6f, good to firm), both times behind Libertango; improvement possible but she has to settle better.
Spotlight: Thrown in at the deep end on debut in the Listed Marygate here (5f, good) in May and did very well to finish fourth; easily made all at 11-10 in three-runner maiden at Hamilton (6f, good) in June; off since and up in grade today but it remains to be seen where the ceiling of her ability lies.
Spotlight: All five starts at 5f; won at Ascot (good) on second outing and bounced back from heavy Royal Ascot defeat with Listed win at Sandown (good) under Ryan Moore, who is back on board today; didn't run up to her best in the Super Sprint at Newbury and now tackles 6f; others appeal more.
Spotlight: Made it 2-2 when leading in the final strides in the Listed Marygate Stakes here (5f, good) in May; hasn't kicked on since, however, finishing down the field at Royal Ascot (5f, good to firm) and merely fourth on recent nursery debut at Newmarket (6f, good to firm); others are preferred.
Spotlight: All three runs at 5f on good to firm; won the Hilary Needler at Beverley in May on her second start then mid-division in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot behind a few of these; the step up to 6f could suit but lots of improvement is needed.
Spotlight: Won Newmarket novice (6f, good to firm) last month on third start and midfield in Listed race at Newbury (5f, good to firm) last Friday; the return to 6f can help but it seems likely her limitations will again be exposed.
Spotlight: Has shown ability but she's 0-4 and yet to pose a serious threat, including when 250-1 at Royal Ascot; she would be a shock winner today.
